A Benefit was held at NAPA for Tim Flood Nov. 12, 2011 From Tim Flood: He would just like to express his thanks to all who participated in the benefit for him, it was a huge help to him to know that he has so many people looking out for him and the help that the money has provided is priceless! As you all know he is struggling to get around on one leg and is still non weight bearing on his right side, but his pain is under control which helps a lot, his physical therapist is very pleased with his progress and she continues to come to the house 3 times a week, he informs me that when he is well and on 2 feet and back to work he will be having a hell of a thank you party! The next big step is to get him down to Scottsdale to see the surgeon on January the 13th (which happens to be a Friday) we are hoping that he can get to be weight bearing and can continue to recover .Tim would like to wish you all the very best for the holidays and a healthy and prosperous new year and if you are passing his house please stop by and say hello! The days are long as you can imagine, but it gives him time to short list the long list of motorcycles that he wants. With heartfelt thanks to all those who helped TIM.

Coalition Formed to Save the Bonneville Salt Flats A number of prominent organizations have formed a “Save the Salt Coalition” to save the Bonneville Salt Flats (BSF) from continued deterioration due to salt brine removal from potash mining. The Coalition is working with government officials, mine operators and others to develop a permanent program to replenish the salt. The founding members of the Coalition include SEMA Action Network (SAN), the Bonneville Nationals, Save the Salt Foundation, Source Interlink Media, Southern California Time Assoc., SEMA and the Utah Salt Flats Racing Assoc. The BSF is a unique geological formation that is also central to the history of motorsports and the industries that support motorsports. Scores of world land speed records have been set on the densely packed remnants of a huge prehistoric lake. The BSF has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated an Area of Critical Environmental Concern. PHOENIX (AP) — The owner of a car auction business in Gilbert has been indicted for allegedly defrauding more than 50 customers since 2009. Maricopa County prosecutors say a 101-count indictment charges Stanley Dean Torgerson of fraud and theft for allegedly selling vehicles for customers and failing to give them the pro-ceeds. Torgerson owns International Car Auction (ICA), which has been in business for about 20 years. Authorities say Torgerson was arrested by Gilbert police. He was jailed on a $50,000 cash only bond. Prosecutors say Torgerson's financial records show he spent the auction proceeds on family members, personal expenses and other businesses. Torgerson could get a life prison term if he's convicted on all counts and sentenced to consecutive aggravated terms.

Resolution Designating July 8, 2011, as “Collector Car Appreciation Day” Approved by U.S. Senate
A t the request of SEMA and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) and Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) councils, Senator John Tester (D-MT) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) have introduced and the Senate has approved Senate Resolution 154 (S. Res. 154) in the United States Senate, officially designating July 8, 2011, as “Collector Car Appreciation Day.” S. Res. 154 states that the Senate “recognizes that the collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States.” The date marks the second commemoration in what will become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. “Last year, the U.S. Senate helped launch the first national Collector Car Appreciation Day by passing Senate Resolution 513 at our request,” said SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs Steve McDonald. “As a result, thousands of Americans gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation’s automotive heritage. As we move forward, SEMA’s commitment to preserving and promoting the automotive-restoration industry through its projects and programs is evident in this special day.” Senators Tester and Burr, both members of the Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus, have been strong advocates for the automotive hobby in Washington. By sponsoring S. Res. 154, Tester and Burr have reaffirmed their understanding of the cultural importance of collector cars. The caucus is an informal, non-partisan group that pays tribute to America’s ever-growing love affair with the car and motorsports. The caucus recognizes the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation’s appreciation for the automobile’s unique place in our history. Business owners, car clubs and individuals are encouraged to organize events to help celebrate the day. For a listing of 2011 Collector Car Appreciation Day events already planned, please visit the SEMA Action Network (SAN). For more information or to have your event included, please contact Ashley Ailsworth at ashleya@ sema.org. Courtesy of SEMA Action Network.

Community New photo enforcement location installed in Prescott Valley. Efforts to reduce speeding violations and vehicle accidents have been a priority in The Town of Prescott Valley. In addition to regular patrols, education and signage, Prescott Valley employs the photo enforcement system. A study conducted in January proved that Prescott East Highway and S.R. 69 is an area that needs additional attention. The study showed that in a 12 hour period there were 1692 speeding violations in the three westbound lanes and 476 in the three eastbound lanes. The speeding violations started at 11 MPH over the posted speed limit. Construction has begun on a fixed photo enforcement site at that intersection. The system is projected to be operational in early October. There will be a 30 day warning period before citations begin. The site will enforce both speed and red light violations in that intersection. We want the public to know that there are some calibration functions that the photo enforcement equipment undergoes. There have been situations where a driver may be flashed when they are not exceeding the speed limit. This is not something to worry about as you will not receive a citation if you were not exceeding the speed limit. Keeping our roadways safe is everyone’s responsibility. Please drive with care, be attentive, and obey all posted speed limits. We want to keep our great community safe for everyone to enjoy.

Every Saturday from 6:30am - 8:30am. There will be an informal park and talk at the Fry's Parking lot on Willow Creek Road near Embry Riddle. Pick up a coffee at Method Coffee, Jack in the Box, Fry's Deli (Coffee & Donuts) or Subway. This event is not sponsored by anyone. You can drive any cool thing you like. Park behind the bank. However, don't expect a "Best of Show" just a nod from another "Car Guy". Drive'm, it's good for both of you.

Arizona Street Rods Association has a new web site…. Shutterfly
