Straight
n' Great '57...the owner is Mike Hedtke
of Prescott Valley, a California transplant from Anaheim Hills. He worked
for Douglas Aircraft, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing Aircraft. During
those years he had several restoration projects. A 1950 Ford 2 door
sedan, 1953 Ford F100 pickup, 1965 Ford
Mustang 2 plus 2 fast back, 1968 Olds 442, 1971 Chevy Nova and a 1970
VW. Mike had a friend from California who had also moved to the Prescott
area. He had a 1957 Chevy in his garage but rarely drove it. One day
Mike asked him if he would like to sell it. Well, yes! That's how Mike
acquired the Chevy. Most of the hard work had already been done, like
paint, chrome and interior. Mike followed up with TLC on leaks, electrical
hoses and gauges. Mike uses Bob Miller at BMP Fabrications in Prescott
Valley for mechanical work. Bob found a minor miss in the 350 HP 5.7
liter small block and removed the Cirillo Magneto and installed a MSD
distributor and associated parts. It runs great now. Bob also installed
Power Discs, Coil over shocks and freshened up the front end and installed
a CPP 500 Power steering box. He upgraded the cooling system and removed
the Nitrous system, it is fast enough with out it. All that is left
for Mike to do is install a Vintage Air unit and a 700R4 trans with
3:70 gears behind it. Mike has a long list of engine, trans, rear, front
end and interior mods. The interior is mainly Gray Tweed with Red Chevy
Bow Ties. The trunk has some hidden compartments for essentials and
gas tank access. The paint is Ferrari Red. Mike goes to cruises and
car shows in the area, stop by and say hello. |
